Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare materials, tools and equipment for woolshed activities
   • Identify the required materials, tools and equipment from provided lists and supervisor's instructions
   • Check all materials, tools and equipment and inform supervisor if there are insufficient or faulty items
   • Use techniques when loading and unloading materials that demonstrate correct manual handling and minimise damage to the load and the vehicle
   • Select and use suitable personal protective equipment
   • Identify work health and safety hazards and inform supervisor
2. Undertake woolshed activities as directed
   • Follow instructions and directions provided by supervisor and seek clarification when necessary
   • Undertake work in a safe and environmentally appropriate manner
   • Carry out interactions with other workers and owners and classers in a positive and professional manner
   • Move animals humanely into pens as directed
   • Undertake board duties as directed
   • Provide support to shearing as directed
   • Provide support to wool sorting, replacing butts and wool pressing as directed
   • Inform supervisor if there are problems or difficulties in completing work to required standards or timelines
3. Handle materials and equipment
   • Store waste material produced during woolshed activities in a designated area as directed by supervisor
   • Handle and transport materials, equipment and machinery as instructed
   • Maintain a clean and safe work site while completing woolshed activities
4. Clean up on completion of woolshed activities
   • Return materials are returned to store or dispose of appropriately
   • Clean, store and maintain tools and equipment
   • Inform supervisor of the work outcomes

Performance Evidence

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.

The candidate must provide evidence that they can:

use safe work procedures

prepare materials, tools and equipment for woolshed activities

provide support to shearing and crutching

move and pen animals

assist with wool handling

undertake woolshed activities as directed

handle materials and equipment

clean up on completion of woolshed activities

communicate with supervisor and team members using industry standard terminology

characteristics of wool types and sheep breeds that relate to sorting wool
